Update: New TuneRanger Beta Syncs song Ratings, Play counts, etc

September 17th, 2007

New TuneRangerâ„¢ Beta updates: Mac OS X build 212 and Windows XP/Vista build 194, are now available for immediate download.

These are important updates that address a key request of many early adopters - full synchronization support for iTunes specific tags.

Changes include:

  • Full support for Ratings, Play Counts, Last Play Date, EQ Settings and Comments. Changes made to any of these iTunes database fields will now be synchronized.
  • Fixes for a number of elusive bugs mostly related to 2-byte and high-ASCII characters in file names, tags and iTunes database fields.

These updates were released September 17, 2007 and are recommended for all users.

New TuneRangerâ„¢ Updates Extend Free Trial Period

August 24th, 2007

New TuneRangerâ„¢ beta updates: Mac OS X build 206 and Windows XP/Vista build 188 are now available for immediate download.
These updates include:

  • Resets the trial period for an additional 30 days using the original trial activation code.
  • Fixed a problem affecting users with internally corrupted iTunes Libraries. While iTunes appeared to work properly, it had internal problems only visible to applications accessing the Library via the published API’s. Previously the solution had been to rebuild the Library which solved the problem in all cases. We implemented a workaround in this build.
  • Added a additional diagnostic messages to the logs to help us troubleshoot problem situations.

These updates were released August 22, 2007 and are recommended for all users.

  • Fixed several elusive threading crashes.
  • Fixed crashes when attempting to read tags of bad or corrupted MP3 files.

Software Update - New TuneRanger Beta Updates Available

August 11th, 2007

New beta releases of TuneRanger network sync for iTunes and iPod are now available for immediate download.

The new updates are recommended for all TuneRanger users.

IMPORTANT:  The new Mac and Windows builds are a “matching set” and are not compatible with earlier releases. The underlying networking system has undergone important modifications in order to make it faster and more reliable, so these new versions will not be able to communicate with earlier releases. You’ll need to upgrade all computers you wish to synchronize with the corresponding OS platform version.

The installers are also undergoing revisions so it is very important that you remove earlier versions of TuneRanger before installing the new ones. On Mac OS X, open the Applications folder, drag the TuneRanger application to the trash, and then empty the trash before running the new installer. On Windows, remove the old version using the “Add/Remove Programs” control panel before running the new installer.

The Mac OS X version (build 200) is available at:

http://www.acertant.com/web/tuneranger/tr_mac_dlref.htm

The Windows version (build 178) is available at:

http://www.acertant.com/web/tuneranger/tr_win_dlref.htm

KEY CHANGES/FIXES/IMPROVEMENTS

  • Lots of general reliability, network discovery, and speed improvements.
  • We’ve adopted Apple’s Bonjour network discovery on both Mac and Windows. Using Bonjour, TuneRanger will now auto-discover other TuneRanger-running computers on larger more complex networks and it’s much, much faster. On Mac, Bonjour is part of the OS so there is nothing for you to do. On Windows, if you previously installed iTunes version 6.x or earlier you may already have it installed, otherwise you’ll need to download it from: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows.html. If Windows users don’t install Bonjour, TuneRanger will use the original discovery system. Of course you still have the option of adding other computer’s IP addresses manually.
  • Added “Track #” as a top level comparison key. This was added to resolve false duplicate issues with some classical music collections that use the same song name within an album and differentiate songs only by track number.
  • We’ve removed the option to install as a client since this was causing some confusion for some users. Now all TuneRanger installations are client/servers. You can still turn off the server in preferences.
  • Improved logging should help us to diagnose problems much better now than with earlier builds.

Press Release - TuneRanger Network Sync for iTunes Now Available

July 20th, 2007

iTunes users with copies of their music and video collections on multiple computers can now keep them synchronized via any network - even across OS platforms.

Miami, Florida – Thursday, July 20, 2007 – Acertant Technologies announced today that TuneRanger™ for Mac OS X and Windows platforms is now available for free trial and purchase at: www.acertant.com.

TuneRanger connects iTunes-running computers over a network, allowing music, video, and playlists to be copied from one iTunes library to another seamlessly. TuneRanger even works across platforms letting iTunes libraries on Windows communicate and sync with iTunes libraries on Mac OS X or any combination.

Within a typical home network all computers running iTunes and TuneRanger discover each other automatically. Users can then choose one of six default copy and synchronization methods and begin transferring files and playlists immediately. The results are reflected in iTunes right away, with all files and playlists where they should be, ready to be played or moved to any iPod or iPhone.

“Most users keep their iTunes music and video collection on more than one computer at a time,” said Jorge Miranda, Acertant’s CTO and co-founder, “These can include a home computer, a laptop, a PC at work and even computers for spouses and kids. Until now there was no easy way to keep all these iTunes libraries in ‘sync.’ This is important because you can buy songs or rip CDs on any of these systems and then you have to remember to copy the files and add them to each iTunes by hand. It’s even harder for playlists. Now with TuneRanger it’s a simple one click affair.”

TuneRanger offers true synchronization. It compares songs and videos on all computers and only moves what has changed. It even does this for playlists. Not only will it copy playlists from one iTunes to another it will even synchronize the contents of all or selected playlists. Power users will be pleased with TuneRanger’s more advanced sync settings and its ability to perform direct iPod synchronization - including iPod to iTunes transfers.

TuneRanger includes tools to keep iTunes and iPods in shape. These include: an automated duplicate manager, an orphan file remover, tools to remove unlicensed songs, add or remove disconnected files, and a utility to copy album art from the iTunes database to the actual music files.

Price and Availability

TuneRanger is available now for only $29.99 – 40% off regular price. This includes a standard five (5) client license (one platform) to match Apple’s five computers per AppleID license.

At the conclusion of TuneRanger’s public beta period the price will return to the regular $49.99.

Versomatic 1.0 for Mac OS X Ships!

Versomaticâ„¢ 1.0 for Mac OS X Ships!

Mac OS X system extension archives and restores previous versions of any type of document automatically in real-time.

Miami, Florida – Wednesday, November 1, 2006 – Acertant Technologies announced today that Versomatic™ 1.0 for Mac OS X is now available for immediate download at www.acertant.com.

Versomatic is a powerful extension to the Mac OS X operating system that monitors and archives file changes automatically in the background. The entire process is completely transparent to the user and is compatible with any application that saves files to disk. Versomatic can also recover deleted and accidentally over-written files regardless of when they were deleted.

Versomatic is part “version control “and part “incremental backup,” but unlike traditional backup applications, including Apple’s upcoming Time Machine, Versomatic is not based on snapshot or backup schedules. Changes are archived in real-time “as they happen” and the protection is always pre-emptive. This means that you can recover every change not just the last scheduled backup and that you don’t need to make a full backup to begin archiving changes. Versomatic’s ability to archive revisions locally in real-time can enhance traditional scheduled backup software and extend backup protection to off-line workstations and laptops.

Retrieving earlier versions of files couldn’t be simpler. Just right-click (or control click) on a document to reveal a pop-up menu listing the file’s entire revision history. Then click on a date and time to view or export a copy of the chosen revision. No restore scripts, complicated queries or confusing applications required.

As a system extension Versomatic supports all types of files not just word processing or publishing documents. Designers, marketers and engineers can now benefit as much as writers, journalists and attorneys from the peace of mind and convenience of incremental document version control protection.

Price and Availability

Versomatic for Mac OS X is available for immediate download through our website. The special introductory price of $39.99 (a 20% discount) will remain in effect during the month of November. Versomatic 1.0 is also available for Windows XP.

For further details, please visit our website at: www.acertant.com.
